This episode is less of an interview and more of a 2-way conversation between Alex Merry and myself. Alex founded a TEDx event (eg: commonly known as “TED Talks”), which is a volunteer & self-funded endeavor. He was able to recruit some big-name speakers, a full volunteer team, and go on to inspire other events in places like Cambodia or a London prison.
“I’m meeting people that I would never have been able to meet, just because I’ve taken the jump and done this stuff…” – Alex Merry
Some of the highlights of our conversation include:
- How we both recruited volunteer teams (with professional designers, managers etc.)
- How you can launch something much bigger than yourself, with loads of uncertainty
- The very real benefits we both got from running the event (despite it’s volunteer nature)
- Alex issues a specific challenge to you for next week to help you create something larger than yourself next week
- And much, much more
