Marcelino “Frost Flow” DaCosta is a 2-time Canadian champion breakdancer, community worker (who has produced some of Toronto’s first urban arts events), TEDx speaker, and has toured and taught breakdancing internationally. Not only has he created spaces for others to express themselves through hip-hop and other art forms, but he had a lot to say about the parallels between hip-hop and any other creative pursuit.
“Learn your history man…consider how you’re going to open it, build upon it, and share it. What’s your contribution that’s going to impact people for generations?” – Marcelino “Frost Flow” DaCosta
Some of the highlights of our conversation include:
- How to start a b-boy crew and the early challenges
- Instead of being frustrated with the lack of spaces to breakdance, he got the support of the city of Mississauga to hold hip-hop events in city hall…he also shares his recommendations for doing the same
- A challenge for you (definitely the weirdest one I’ve heard)
- And much, much more
