Tim Hofmann is a self-described “coffee guy”. He runs a chain of coffee shops, and most-recently, a coffee roastery he started in his friend’s basement. A lot of people I talked to said they’d love to run a coffee shop, bakery, or café, so I asked Tim all about what it’s like.
“Not only is it possible to start a business with nothing…that’s the way to do it and reduce your exposure to risk. ” – Tim Hofmann
Some of the highlights of our conversation include:
- how he recommends starting a coffee shop in a low-cost and low-risk way (hint: not with a coffee shop)
- where to get all the supplies needed to start a coffee roastery in your basement for $100
- the most forgiving type of coffee bean for beginner roasters
- why it’s ok to start small (and why it’s better)
